SERIES: 2014 PROPHECY AND CONTEMPORARY HISTORY SERIES

Links to MP3 RECORDINGS
SERIES:  FOUNDATIONAL TRUTHS AND CONCEPTS FOR UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE

The purpose of this series is to provide listeners with an understanding of some of the foundational concepts necessary to more accurately interpret Scripture.  The term "foundational" or "fundamental" is used in lieu of "basic" because these truths and concepts should be a part of our conscious thought as we approach every passage of Scripture.  They can never be over-emphasized in terms of their importance for our interpretation of Scripture, our individual circumstances and human history as a whole.

I was inspired to teach this series at this time due to the number of Portuguese speaking individuals who have been attending the WebEx sessions beginning earlier this Spring 2013.  These wonderful people may not have had the benefit of having been provided an opportunity to become familiar with some of the terminology and concepts that form the foundational pillars of so much of what I teach.  So, I desired to provide a series of WebEx sessions that will introduce them (and others in the future) to these very important and foundational concepts.  Our series entitled "The Spiritual Journey of the Believer" will resume later this summer or early Fall as soon as we conclude the "Foundational" series.

    • The Essence of God
    • The Appeal Trial of Satan:  A Biblical Basis for a Philosophy of Human History
    • A Dispensational Framework for Understanding the Bible

Of course, we attempt to create categorical distinctions for academic analysis and discussion purposes; however, no Scriptural truth or concept stands in isolation in practice.  Therefore, within a discussion of the above topics, other key Scriptural truths and concepts will be interwoven.  For example, our perspective of salvation, the spiritual walk or journey of the believer, and eschatology just to name a few are influenced and enhanced.

Thank you for your interest and I hope you enjoy the series!  Steven J. Ellis, Pastor-Teacher

  • This series is designed to take a fresh look at Biblical prophecy in view of the unfolding events of contemporary history, specifically the emerging influence of Islam and the declension of the influence of Western powers.  In this series, a common foundational understanding of a number of pivotal passages and concepts is first established.  Then, the studies build upon that foundation to examine comparisons between Biblical eschatology and Islamic eschatology.  The parallels that exist between the two are eye-opening.

    • Date - Introduction-Part 4 - Foundational terminology and concepts - continued.  In this session, we examined an updated definition and description of the interpretive principle of "intercalation" and contrasted it with examples of inconsistent (or an absence of the) usage of this principle by many prominent theologians and writers.

Daniel's Vision of the Four Beasts - Daniel 7

Important Note:  As I began to re-examine the prophecies of Daniel and after I had conducted sessions on June 2nd and June 9th, I realized that I needed to modify and refine my interpretation of the last empire depicted in Daniel 2 and Daniel 7.  My interpretation of the last empire depicted in the statue of Nebuchadnezzar's dream (chp. 2) and the fourth beast (chp. 7) now excludes the historic Roman empire and understands these references to be solely related to the "last days" empire - the empire that will exist during the Tribulation.  As such, the final empire depicted in these two chapters is not a "Revived Roman Empire" as I had been led to understand due to the writings of so many respected theologians who have had such a positive influence upon me.  I introduce this understanding in the session on June 16th

    • Date - Introduction to Daniel's Vision of the Four Beasts that arise out of the Sea.
    • Date - The four beasts of Daniel 7.  Introduced the fourth beast to be a reference to the end times empire from which the Antichrist will emerge - the description of which finds parallels in such passages as Revelation 13, 17-18.
    • Date - See "Important Note" above.
    • Date - Reconciling the fourth empire of Dan 2; the fourth beast of Dan 7; and the "beast" of Rev 13 and 17 - all of which describe the "last days" empire.
    • Date - Reconciling the fourth empire - continued and beginning Study #20 - Relating the Beast to the Future Islamic Caliphate.
    • Date - Study #20 in the series.  Relating the 4th Beast of Daniel 7 and the Beast of Revelation 17 to a future Islamic Caliphate with the 12th Imam (or "Madhi") fulfilling the role of the Antichrist.

Note:  There will be no session on Sunday, July 14 as I will be attending a work related conference Sunday, July 14 through Tuesday, July 16.

    • Date - Study #20 in the series.  Understanding the Islamic figure known as "Al-Mahdi" who is the Islamic messiah and the Biblical Antichrist.  In this study (Study #20), we will observe the synthesis between Biblical prophecies of the Antichrist and his power structure (Daniel 2, 7 and Revelation 17-18 in particular) and the Islamic view of a future Caliphate.
    • Date - Study #20 continued.  Continued focus upon a comparison of the comparison between Islamic eschatology and Biblical eschatology regarding the Islamic "messiah" known as the "Al-Mahdi" and the Biblical Antichrist.
    • Date - Study #20 continued.  Concluded comparisons between the Islamic "messiah" and the Biblical Antichrist.  Began analysis and comparison between the Islamic caliphate and the "last days" political, economic, and religious entity that gives rise to the Antichrist in Scripture (e.g. Rev 17-19:10).

    • Date - Study #22 (continued) - commentary regarding the "Common Core" issue; home schooling; comments by the rulers of Iran; and Psalm 83.  Also, reviewed a map of the area around Israel and compared the ancient people-groups addressed in Hebrew prophecies to the present Islamic-dominated people groups.
    • Date - Study #22 (continued).  Examined prophecies concerning Israel's enemies in Isaiah 25 and Ezekiel 25.
    • Date - Study #22 (continued).  Examined Obadiah and discussed excerpts from October 19th edition of World magazine entitled "A Long Way from Tehran" - an article about Saheed and Naghmeh Abedini.  Saheed is a US citizen of Iranian origin who is now serving an 8 year sentence in Iran for proselytizing.

    • Date - Study #23 (continued) - The Inter-Testament period and Daniel 11:5ff.
    • Date- Study #23 (continued) - The Inter-Testament period and Daniel 11:5ff.
    • Date - Study #23 (continued) - The Inter-Testament period and Daniel 11:5-35 (through Antiochus IV Epiphanes).
    • Date - Study #23 (conclusion) - Daniel 11:36-12:13 - The Antichrist of the last days and prophecies related to the last days.

SERIES:  CONCEPTS AND TRUTHS FOR THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

This series was initiated at the end of October 2012 and is expected to continue into Q2 2013.  In this series, we are exploring the meaning of Paul's exhortation to "put off the old self" (or "old man") and "put on the new self" (or "new man") in such passages as Ephesians 4:20-24 and Colossians 3:8-10.  Understanding the depth of meaning that underlies the old self / new self dichotomy to which Paul refers is essential to our spiritual maturation as believers if we are to have any hope of spiritual victory in the daily grind of this life.  I have never understood the concepts discussed in this series as well as I do at this point in my spiritual journey.  Hopefully, the information shared will be equally beneficial to you.
